Meet 2012 Senior BA, Katie Stroud and Junior BA, Annie Belden

California Beef Ambassador Program

The objective of the National Beef Ambassador Program is to provide an opportunity for youth to educate consumers and students about beef nutrition, food safety, and stewardship practices of the beef industry.  Beef Ambassadors serve as wonderful advocates for the beef industry at the local, state and national levels.  The California CattleWomen and California Beef Council team up to sponsor a state contest each spring.

The 2012 California Beef Ambassador Contest was held on Saturday, April 28th at Chico State.  Twelve contestants competed in the senior division, which included three categories: Mock Consumer Event, Media Interview, and Issues Response.  Nine contestants competed in the junior division, which included Mock Consumer Event and Issues Response.  The results were as follows:

Senior Division                                     
1st Place and $400 – Katie Stroud (Modoc/Intermountain)
2ndPlace and $300 – Branson Medeiros (San Luis Obispo County)

Also competing: Katelynn Bradford (Alameda County); Meghan Lambert (Butte County); Parker Wade Crouse (Kern County); Danielle Wood (Lassen County); Randi Leigh Johnson (Modoc County); Crystal Avila (Monterey County); Brenna Klauer (Placer-Nevada); Jared Tapal (Shasta County); Bailey Brownfield (Tehama County).

Junior Division                   
1st Place and $200 – Anne Marie Belden (Butte County)
2nd Place and $100 – Drew Francis (Kern County)

Also competing: Hunter Gonsalves (Alameda County); Shayne Myers (Glenn County); Garrett Ramsour (Placer-Nevada); Emilee Morrison (San Luis Obispo County); Allen Williams (Shasta County); Emma Morris (Siskiyou County); Taylor Collins (Tehama County).

All participants received $50, an “I Heart Beef” polo shirt, and a beef advocacy guidebook from the California Beef Council.  They were encouraged to return to their counties and continue to promote the beef industry.

Katie Stroud and Anne Marie Belden will represent California at the National Beef Ambassador Contest in Sacramento September 28-30.  The top five contestants in the senior division at the national competition become part of the National Beef Ambassador Team and will travel throughout the country in late 20121 and 2013 promoting beef and the beef industry.
